A new saddle should always be well oiled before use: Maximum 1 litre of saddle oil should be used. Take photo of saddle prior to stripping it for ease of re-assembly later. Strip saddle - i.e. completely remove left and right fender, cinch straps. Place in direct sun to warm leather. Apply thin layer of oil on underside of leather with paint brush. This should be repeated 4 or 5 times. Allowing oil to absorb completely between coats. Using   firm   pressure   with   a   paint   brush,   rub   oil   into   rigging   points   to   help   stop   squeaking   of saddle. Oiling should be done over 2 or 3 days for best results. Fenders and stirrup leathers can be softened by hand to speed up the softening process. Saddles should be oiled regularly depending on use and exposure to the elements. A final single layer can be applied on top side of leather. Polish off thoroughly before using. Unless you want an oil stain on your tush!
